The Grand Enchantment Trail
The Grand Enchantment Trail (GET) is a 730-mile hiking route that travels from Phoenix, AZ to Albuquerque, NM. It is the brainchild of Brett Tucker (BlisterFree). I call it a “route” because it is not official sanctioned by any “official” government agency such as the Forest Service or BLM. Brett simply looked at a map and envisioned his route - stringing together a series of existing trails (including portions of the Arizona Trail and Continental Divide Trail), little-used dirt roads and some cross-country hiking. He has spent countless hours researching, hiking, flagging, and maintaining the trail, as well as compiling an amazing online resource here including a full guidebook and town guide. He only charges for the mapset on CD. We owe him a big debt of gratitude before even hoisting the pack.
We are excited to be heading out on the GET in mid-April 2010. Fewer than ten people have thru-hiked (end-to-end in one push) the GET so far and we hope to be in the Top Ten! The trail has seen an amazing amount of rain and snowfall this winter and promises to be lush with wildflowers and water sources. Be sure to follow our journey on our blog.
